Tabula Rasa and The Truth

I had a teacher tell me that man is born a blank slate – “tabula rasa.”  Then if this is true, man is born good.  With each experience we have, we are shaped. One can look at it as if each experience is a paint stroke on the original blank canvas we are born with.  Each paint stroke leads to the masterpieces of which we become.

I have also heard that one cannot help but love a person once one knows the person. In other words, if you come to know each part of a person you can truly understand them. You now know every aspect of this person and understand the emotions and thoughts behind their actions.  How can you hate this person now? You cannot dislike them.  You can’t help but love them.

One of the problems in our world today is that people do not make a full effort to understand another person.  A person may begin to talk to another, but the person will then stop talking to him/her on account of a false understanding. The false understanding is this:  you begin to think a certain negative way about another person because you didn't take more time to learn the truth about that person.  You see…one must always be willing to look deeper into a situation.  If this does not make sense, ask yourself this – is it right to assume negative things of a person and never give the person a chance to show you that they are one in a million? So continue the conversations. We have become a generation craving instant gratification, but instant gratification cannot bring us the finer things in life.  Instant gratification cannot bring us what we truly desire. Continuing communications and interactions through other means instead of (for example) texting will lead you to know people on a higher level in which the truth is exposed and you believe and fall for the truth instead of lies and negativity.

Short and Sweet

When told we are very different or “weird,” we take it as a compliment.  Being told these things only proves true that we are unique and others see that, but there’s the mystery to them in which they don’t quite understand our beings.  We are beautiful and we are free.

Relationships

"An old soul is someone who understands the value in relationships. Sharing their lives with that other person is what old souls do best. They are able to connect on so many levels. Old souls share habits, tastes in music, passions for love and have all been through their fair share of tribulation.
In a relationship an old soul only needs one thing, that thing is love. The love shared and exchanged between the two is not something ordinary. The love that brings these two people together is nothing short of perfect. It’s a love that has waited years to find someone to understand them. It’s a love that has been crushed and broken at the will of others. It’s a love that has lost many battles, but will not give up on finding that one person who makes it all worthwhile. It’s a love that when found is genuine and will last a lifetime.

Old souls yearn for the morals and values of yesteryear. We don’t belong in this society where throwing a relationship away is easier than fixing it. Old souls are not of this time and this is one of the few things that make us frustrated. Others look at us as relics, minds in a century long past and bodies in another. We thrive on our own originality and seek to share it with others just like us. Old souls want their other half to be with on a cold winters eve or soft summer night. To spend time just looking into each others’ eyes, not in thought but rather consumed in simple, blissful love."

Love

Old souls are different from society.  I bear the effects of that.  Often there is a feeling of not being accepted, but when you do meet someone with your same values it renders one speechless so to speak.  Then, to fall in love with another old soul…
You aren’t afraid to be yourself with them.  It is in the way you can dream with them creating your perfect world together, the conversations about your passions, the way you look in each other’s eyes, the way you can sit there for hours and not say anything but smile at the other person that something truly amazing happens.  Yes, this is true for all those in love, but it is the different level of connection between the two old souls that makes their love so beautiful, so powerful, so rare.

The exchange of words in an old soul’s relationship is important, but equally important is simply being together and spending time with each other; fortifying the words exchanged…”

What people don’t understand is the extreme pain that an old soul goes through after this love has been taken from them.  Like I stated before, they’ll hold onto this love forever and it will always be a part of them. You can still remember that first conversation on that very first day, you can still feel their presence, you can still hear their voice, you can still hear their laugh, you can still hear the way they sang to you, you can still hear the way they told you were perfect, you can still see the way they smiled at you, you can still hear the way they said those three simple words "I love you."

What is it exactly that makes an old soul beautiful?  It’s everything about them.  It is their entire being.  I often find that with every old soul I meet, we are all similar.  Yes, it may just be a coincidence that all of these people have certain things in common, but what if it isn’t a coincidence?
Old souls never sleep.  We stay up until the early hours of the morning.  It isn’t because we suffer from insomnia.  Rather, it is because we suffer from an intense passion and interest in life that we do not want to shut our eyes for the slightest moment.  In these late hours, old souls do their best thinking.  We discover new music, new places, new ideas, new challenges, etc. and become caught up in a fantasy involving all of these things.  Old souls have the capability of creating a utopia in their minds.  To the common person, this seems naïve and they strongly feel that these worlds we create in our minds will never occur, but it is the old soul who has the determination and the drive to make even one part of their ideal worlds possible.
Old souls have an unending hope.  I find that old souls get pushed down multiple times yet they continue to have such a strong hope.  Sometimes this hope becomes even stronger than it was before.  These beautiful creatures have undergone hardships ranging from both ends of extremity, but it is their way of handling these ordeals that proves their beauty.  Old souls are wise.  They are of course beyond their years.  Old souls have minds that are 10, 15, 20 steps ahead of the normal human.   Old souls see a situation and attack it from an almost backwards perspective compared with that of the common man.   They are the ones who people run to for advice.  Thus, they are left with no one to go to for advice but themselves.  This is why old souls are so wise.  Old souls have no choice but to be their own advice, but I believe they would much rather have it this way.
Oh, but it is the old souls’ view of love that makes them so unique.  An old soul believes that there is nothing impossible in love.  They are always true to their word, but I feel they are most genuine in love.  Old souls believe in soul mates and when they know they have found their one, an old soul will share love and passion like no other.   An old soul is intuitive and, even from a young age, will know who will not be his or her soul mate.  Even after a strange occurrence when the other person gives up on the love and feels like it wouldn’t work, the old soul will fight for the love once shared.  Old souls will never forget that love and they will hold onto it for the rest of their lives.
Old souls are indeed very rare breeds.  We are few, yet it seems as though we find each other amongst the world’s population.  We often feel a connection, a one-of-a-kind bond, with each other.  Old souls are in their own worlds, but those worlds are intertwined to be one between them. Our personalities are beautiful, our outlooks our beautiful.  We cannot let anyone change us.
